Ten sentenced of digital abuse against Brigitte Macron

A French judicial body has convicted ten people for engaging in the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced charges of circulating untruths regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to making malicious remarks about the couple's 24-year age gap.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A persistent conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has been in circulation since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France is concurrent with the Macrons initiating a defamation lawsuit in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's identity.
Their lawsuit contends that Owens ignored all credible evidence that refuted her assertions in favour of platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has frequently reiterated these allegations on her digital program and social media channels, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her conviction that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her future husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.
The pair tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
